Teaching Assistant Vacancy – Dronfield area

SEN TEACHING ASSISTANT (TA)

Lenthall Infant and Nursery School, Dronfield, Sheffield

Part-time hours during term-time only:   32.5 hours per week   

Salary: £16.44 per hour weekdays

An exciting opportunity has arisen to support our client within their school setting, encouraging independence. Our client has complex healthcare needs including down’s syndrome and autism.

This position is to work 1-1 with our client in the school setting, however there will also be some group work with other pupils and teachers.

You are expected to have proficient written, communication, problem-solving and TA skills. All essential and specific training will be given to help you fulfil your role.

If you do not hold a valid NVQ Level 2 or 3 in Health and Social Care (or equivalent) we will enroll you onto The Care Certificate qualification, which we expect you to complete within your first 6 months of employment.

 Your Role:

Maintain accurate and detailed handover (daily) records using an electronic app (Log My Care)

Uphold CQC’s 5 key questions at all times: Safe, Effective, Caring, Well-Led and Responsive

Support the client in all daily school tasks which may include, but is not limited to: 1-1 support in the classroom assisting with writing, reading, use of assistive technology, assisting the client in group work, assisting with dressing (for example; for PE lessons), mealtimes and snack at lunch and break times, assisting with toileting and managing the clients’ behaviour.

Carrying out pre-determined educational activities and work programmes whilst promoting independent learning and planning activities which may promote specific developmental areas

Assisting the client with their learning and provide differentiated resources or opportunities

Ensuring all client documents are kept up to date in accordance with MSPCM and school policy and ensuring the prompt and accurate logging of any Accident/Incidents/Near Misses and escalating these to the Class Teacher & Case Manager

Move and handle as recommended in the moving and handling training (safely using hoisting equipment) and as per MSPCM policy and procedure.

Reinforce and assist in any therapy programmes, or integration of such; including: behavioural/OT/Physio/SaLT/AT programmes under the guidance of the necessary professionals

Effectively communicating with the client, and their multi-disciplinary team including: Class Teacher/Tutor/Head Teacher/SENCo/Therapists/Case Manager.

Ensure client confidentiality in record keeping and discussion concerning the client with their dignity, respect and privacy always being maintained

Undertaking any other appropriate and reasonable task in relation to the employment as agreed with the client’s family, SENCo, Class Teacher, Therapists and Case Manager.

Person Specification:

Patience, enthusiasm, and professionalism are essential for this position

1-1 Teaching Assistant Experience is essential

Experience working with children with downs syndrome and/or autism is essential

Flexibility to attend some meetings outside of working hours is essential
