SUPPORT WORKER/TEACHING ASSISTANT

Part-time 27.5 hours per week during term time, Burton on Trent Area

An exciting opportunity has arisen to work with my 10-year-old client on a 1-1 basis in the school setting. Our client has complex health needs which include global development delay, a complex heart condition so he tires and gets breathless during some activities, cerebral palsy, and he is PEG fed. My client is wheelchair dependent, hoisted for some transfers but independently transfers when possible. My client is completely dependent on others to ensure his care needs are met.

All essential and specific training will be given to help you fulfil your role.

 Your Role:

You will be responsible for-

  • Supporting the client in all aspects of daily living within the school or home setting
  • Logging any Accidents/Incidents, keep a medication record, daily activities record and support worker expenses and mileage record
  • Following therapy programs as agreed with involved professionals
  • Travelling with the client and family may be necessary on occasions
  • Providing high standards of cleanliness, comfort and care
  • Prioritising the client’s needs at all times by assisting with cleaning specific equipment
  • Delivering personal care
  • Administering medication (once trained)
  • Assisting with feeding (PEG training will be provided)
  • Undertaking any other appropriate and reasonable task in relation to the employment as agreed with the client’s family and Case Manager
  • Being flexible in hours of work to satisfy the client and his family’s needs.

Person Specification:

  • Patience, enthusiasm, maturity and professionalism are essential for this position
  • Experience working with young adults/children with complex Brain Injury is essential
  • Willingness to integrate therapies into activities and follow therapy programs from the Rehabilitation team is essential
  • Car and Full U.K. Drivers Licence desirable
  • Experience in working with children, families and the school setting is desirable
  • You must have a degree of flexibility to adjust your hours and location of workplace
  • Non-smokers only

HOURS: The shifts include working in school Monday to Friday 9:30 – 15:00. There must be flexibility when needed for the hours to change and location of workplace may need to be at the clients home on occasions.

PAY: £12 per hour weekdays- £13 per hour weekends/nights
